MUSCLE TENSION & PAIN
- During dry needling, it is common for the muscle to twitch. This indicates that the muscle is in a shortened position and has released. Having a muscle twitch during dry needling is a sign of (muscular pain) myofascial pain caused by a shortened muscle (trigger point), and it is also a positive sign that dry needling treatment will be effective.
- Being in a shortened position (the muscle) causes pain and can cause long term deformations to its attaching bones, as well as weaken and damage connective tissues (tendons/ligaments).
- Dry needling is a very effective method for reducing stress on soft tissue by relieving muscle shortening (trigger points).
